3 WAYS TO MAKE YOUR WEDDING INVITATION STAND OUT

You hear it time and time again that your wedding invitations will be the first glimpse into your wedding day. There is a reason why us wedding stationers hone in on this so much, because it’s TRUE! I get it, you want to make the best first impression, psych up your guests and have them start picking out their outfit already and make hotel arrangements.

So, how can you make your wedding invitation stand out? I have 3 simple ways…

how to make your wedding invitations stand out
  1. Thickness of Your Paper

If you really want your wedding suite to stand out, it truly comes down to the foundation of the paper you work with. Get this, computer paper is a text weight of 60# (flappy, weak, meh…) No one wants to print on that for a wedding invitation. Go up and up, I never use less than 110# for my brides and I LOVE to use 220# (like you see above). This gives it a hardy, amazing feel in your hands. It’s weighted, it has thickness, it has softness…

Now, the thicker you go, the more you have to think about postage weight, so don’t go too crazy (I have had to ship a wedding invitation as a small parcel due to the weight).

Think of the paper selection, go with a cotton to be soft, go with a smooth coat finish to have a sleek feel, go with an eggshell finish to give it a watercolor paper effect. It all makes a difference when each piece of your wedding invitation is printed and layered on top of each other.

2. Wedding Invitation Embellishments

What are embellishments? What can you use to add to your wedding invitations? Here are some of my absolute favorite elements to add to your wedding invitations outside of paper.

  • Wax Seals (if you can’t tell already, I have an obsession) the more custom, the better.

  • Silk Ribbon (Hey, It’s Oh So Pretty Is AMAZING)

  • Envelope Liners (they are mounted on the inside flap of your wedding invitation envelope) These help add a wow factor the moment your guest opens the envelope.

  • Vellum Belly Bands (clear bands that give a sleek and modern touch)

  • Vintage Stamps (curate a custom collection that fits your vibe or theme)

3. Your Wedding Invitation Design

It really is that easy. You can tell if a bride has gone online and picked out a typical design, and there is nothing wrong with that! Everyone has a vision and everyone has a certain budget. But, if you opt to pick something online, add a special element that truly makes it personal to you both as a couple.

Add a special wax seal to add to the outside with something sentimental.

Add a custom watercolor envelope liner of the venue you’ll be saying I do.

Add vintage stamps that nod to family history or if your groom is in the military.

There are so many elements that can be added to truly make it personal, if you are unable to go the complete custom route. Otherwise, going with a custom stationery designer, like myself, to start with a blank canvas and create something beautiful and authentic for you alone… that’s true elevation of a wedding invitation. Guests can tell a difference between an invitation that was created from scratch for a couple compared to others. Of course, I’m bias, but it really is true. Not only 1 or 2 elements of personalization are included, but from head to toe on every piece of paper included in your suite.

It’s all about the design and the love story that you tell to excite your guests!
